Hong Kong singer Deep Ng shocked fans last year when he left his agency of 20 years, Emperor Entertainment Group, to pursue a career in construction.
This decision came after a decline in his income, pushing Ng to find other ways to support his family.
On May 31, the Hong Kong Observatory issued the No.3 typhoon signal, which warns of strong winds affecting, or expected to affect, the city within 12 hours.
Despite the warning, Ng remained undeterred and shared in an Instagram Story that he was in Central to help set up a stage for a festival.
The 40-year-old also uploaded a short video of himself and his co-workers building a makeshift shelter to stay dry from the rain.
In an Instagram Story, Ng revealed that his monthly expenses amount to at least HK$50,000 (RM30,067).
“I don’t really want to work, but I need the money. I might have to sell my kidney,” he joked.
Despite trading the glamour of show business for a hard hat, Ng has no regrets and frequently shares glimpses of his life as a construction worker on social media.
Last December, Ng posted a vlog showing him getting box lunches for himself and his co-workers.
The Fire singer shared that he leaves home between 6.15am and 6.30am for his nine-hour shift at a construction site in the Southern District.
Many netizens praised Ng for his commitment and sacrifice for his family while others expressed respect, saying they wouldn’t be able to do his job.
Ng, who won the New Talent Singing Awards in 2002, has released over seven albums and starred in more than 20 TV shows and movies, including New Police Story and Raging Fire.
In recent years, he has worked as a music teacher, stage engineer and even ventured into the food and beverage industry to support his family.
Despite his current work in construction, Ng reiterated that he hasn’t abandoned his singing career and plans to release new music in the future.
