Malaysian songbird Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza recently appeared at the 35th Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH), where she entertained audiences with her song, Romansa Kita, from her latest album, Sitism.
Following the ceremony, Siti posted on Instagram expressing gratitude for receiving the opportunity to perform at the event.
While her legion of fans, fondly known as Sitizoners, left positive comments about her performance, one netizen caught the attention of the 44-year-old after they criticised her new release.
In a now-deleted comment, the netizen wrote: "The song you performed last night (July 21) wasn't good. I enjoyed your old songs more. It's better if you stay with performing your old songs."
In response to the comment, Siti said that art was subjective and that there was "no good or bad".
"Artistes create their own music. Respect the composers who produce songs despite the changing times," she wrote.
Meanwhile, another netizen made assumptions that Siti and her team knew her new songs were "not as good as the old ones".
Denying the speculation, the Jerat Percintaan hitmaker told the netizen to not misunderstand her words and to listen to other songs if they didn't enjoy her new music.
"I have never said the songs were bad. Music is all about taste. Some may like it and some may not. But to say that someone's work is bad, that I don't agree with because music is very broad and subjective.
"Don't misinterpret my words. Those who enjoy my music will give good feedback. And to those who don't, maybe go listen to other songs you like," she said.
