Malaysian comedian Amir Raja Lawak recently bought a new Perodua Alza with the savings he made from selling corn drinks by the roadside.

Amir, whose real name is Mohammad Amirullah Azmi, happily shared his success in an Instagram post on Feb 2.

"Alhamdulillah, this is my blessing for 2023. Many thanks to those who supported Air Jagung Amirreka HQ (the name of Amir's corn drink business). This is only possible because of your sincere support and trust in me," he wrote.

Despite being showered with praises, the 34-year-old remained humble and explained that his "achievement" was a result of over five years' worth of hard work in the hawker business.

"Honestly, I still feel shy about people saying that my story has become an inspiration for them. I'm just a normal guy ... I never set out to be an inspiration for anyone.

"I've been in this business since 2017, and I try to maintain the products I sell as people may have a hard time keeping up if we keep changing products," he told mStar, The Star's Malay language news portal.

Amir revealed that he placed the order for his car – which was retailed at almost RM80,000 – seven months earlier.

"I wanted to get a customised number plate which is AME12, but the price would have reached up to hundreds of thousands.

"I still cannot afford to buy a car with that kind of price. Plus, the (customised) number plate is already owned by someone else," the Marabahaya Underground star said.

Additionally, Amir shared that the reason he bought a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) is because it was more convenient for family trips and also for his business.

He also admitted that he preferred living a simple life and did not find it necessary to buy luxurious things despite his business becoming increasingly successful.

"I'm not a millionaire and have been living a simple life even from before. I have never thought of following the luxurious lifestyle path.

"I also have only a few agents in my business. It's more convenient for me to manage things that way if an acting gig comes up," he concluded.
