Actress-singer Lee Hye-ri – better known as Hyeri – celebrates her birthday today (June 9) by donating 50mil Korean won (RM184,440) to Unicef’s campaign to provide hygiene products to adolescent girls in developing countries.
Soompi.com reported Hyeri saying this of the donation: “I learned that there are still many young girls around the world who face difficulties during their menstruation because they don’t have hygiene products or face discrimination and pain because of customs that see menstruation as being impure.
“It's sad to hear that there are many female students who don’t go to school because there are no separate bathrooms for boys and girls at school.
“I hope this gives at least a little support so that all young girls can mature happily in safe and clean environments.”
Hyeri – who is a member of the K-pop group Girl’s Day – previously donated RM369,249 to Unicef in 2019 for another of its campaign, Schools for Asia.
Besides a successful singing career, the 27-year-old has starred in a number of K-dramas including the 2015 hit Reply 1988. She’s currently headlining the series My Roommate Is A Gumiho.
