Would it have been too much to ask?

Basic Instinct actress Sharon Stone revealed recently that she was not consulted over the 30th-anniversary release of a triple-X rated version of the iconic film that shot her to stardom in 1994.

It’s not enough that the now 63-year-old actress and author unwittingly exposed her most private parts during her portrayal, in that famous leg-crossing scene, half her life ago.

But she now may also have to endure the world ogling a much racier version of her breakout role, in which she played a suspected serial killer.

Back when the film was released, it was long before the depths and depravity of the sexism in the movie business had been exposed.

Since then there has been the #MeToo movement, the jailing of director Harvey Weinstein, and the ousting of dozens of executives, producers, actors and other alleged abusive types from the Hollywood scene.

As Stone peddles a searing memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, which includes details of a childhood riddled with sexual abuse at the hands of her grandfather, she noted in a recent interview that she had not been consulted on the release of the expanded version.

“I think there’s more to come on that, ” she told interviewer Tracy Grimshaw on the Australian show A Current Affair.

“They’ve decided to release the director’s triple-X cut for the 30th anniversary.”

Given all that has transpired since the movie first came out, asking her is the least they could have done, she implied.

“I think that there’s a certain tone-deafness, when it comes to this type of behaviour, that people just want to continue to push forward, and ignore the thoughts and feelings of how women in general feel about this, ” she said.

“People in general feel about it. No one asked me how I felt about it, I can tell you that.”

The star has appeared on numerous talk shows in recent months as she promotes the book, in which she also recounts nearly dying of a brain bleed suffered after a stroke 20 years ago in which she was given a 1% chance of survival. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
