Local singer Mohammad Rauzan Alwi, or simply know by his stage name Roy, has tested positive for Covid-19.
The 56-year-old was admitted to Hospital Banting on Jan 23 after experiencing breathing difficulties. Doctors discovered Roy had a lung infection.
He took the swab test and after the results came back positive on Jan 25, the singer was transferred to Hospital Sungai Buloh.
"I was calm when I received the news because I saw it coming. Right now, I'm having shortness of breath, a lack of oxygen and I'm coughing badly," he told Berita Harian.
"The doctor said my condition is critical but still manageable."
Roy told Harian Metro his condition falls under Stage Four of Covid-19, adding he had no idea how he contracted it.
The Health Ministry has previously said that Covid-19 patients can be categorised into five stages.
Asymptomatic patients are in Stage One; mildly symptomatic patients (but no pneumonia) are in Stage Two; patients with symptoms and have pneumonia are in Stage Three.
At Stage Four, patients have symptoms, pneumonia and need supplemental oxygen. At Stage Five, patients need to be intubated and put on a ventilator.
Roy is best known for his 1993 hit Ratnaku. He experienced a career resurgence in 2019 when he competed in reality singing series Gegar Vaganza.
