With cinemas temporarily closed and the on-going pandemic keeping everyone at home, it is a good time as any to check out new movies on TV.
This seems to be the case with Mael Totey The Movie, available on Astro First since Oct 22.
The film from YouTuber Syahmi Sazli has topped collection for the video-on-demand channel by earning RM6.4mil in 24 days, overtaking previous record holders – Polis Evo (2015) and Hantu Kak Limah (2018).
Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, vice president, Head of Astro Shaw & Nusantara said in a press statement: “This is a historic success in the local film industry, where the debut film by a director from the digital content space breaks collection records, even by blockbuster hits, on Astro First.”
Mael Totey tells of young Mael who enrols into an English class to impress a girl, only to fall in love with his English teacher.
Besides directing the movie, Syahmi also stars in it. Mael Totey co-stars other YouTubers including Yoe Parey, Asif Suhaimi, Emaleen Minhad and Aween Ismail.
