Hong Kong screen icon Maggie Cheung has been leading a quieter life since stepping away from the film industry in 2004.

The 61-year-old now embraces a more modest lifestyle in Bordeaux, France, and occasionally shares glimpses of her countryside life on Xiaohongshu.

In her most recent vlog, Cheung treated fans to a look at how she turns freshly picked figs into homemade jam.

She reflected on life after stepping away from the glamour of showbiz, describing it as peaceful and simple.

"I'm especially in the mood to do things I don't usually have time for in Hong Kong," she wrote in the captions.

In the video, Cheung appeared makeup-free and dressed casually in a button-up shirt and black pants, offering viewers a peek at her spacious kitchen as she prepared her jam.

Fans have since expressed delight at seeing the former actress enjoying a comfortable and cosy lifestyle, with many commenting: "This is the dream retirement life."

Cheung is no stranger to Asian cinema, having led multiple acclaimed films like the first three Police Story movies, In The Mood For Love, Hero and more.

However, at the height of her career in 2004, she announced that she felt "fulfilled as an actress" and retreated from the spotlight.

Last August, Cheung made headlines after joining Xiaohongshu, where she quickly amassed over a million followers.

She has since regularly shared snippets of her countryside life, from tending her garden to picking fresh fruits and collecting chicken eggs.
