K-pop star Kim Jaejoong will be participating in the Japan Mask Project, organised by Japanese non-profit Japan Heart, to provide masks and financial aid to medical institutions in need. Jaejoong will be working alongside other Japanese public figures, including athletes and artistes.

In his comment on the Japan Mask Project page, Jaejoong said: "My chest aches, watching healthcare professionals at stake facing the risks to save people fighting with Covid-19. There are still things we can do to prevent the healthcare system collapse. I want to support medical professionals through this project."

Jaejoong has been facing backlash over his April Fool’s joke, where he made a post on Instagram falsely stating that he had contracted Covid-19.

He later revealed that the “prank” was meant to raise awareness however the post was largely seen as insensitive.

It has yet to be confirmed whether the singer will receive any punishment for his action. Senior official Yoon Tae-ho of the Ministry of Health and Welfare has stated that it will be “difficult to punish Jaejoong” as “legal punishment can only occur if one provides false information while an epidemiological investigation is underway or during the treatment process.”
