VIRTUAL ART: TANG TZE LYE - IT'S BEEN A WHILE, AND I'M FINALLY HERE...
Date and Time: Unlimited
Everyone went through life-changing experiences during the lockdown. What was the impact on you? For contemporary artists Tang Tze Lye, it was an opportunity to revisit old memories, finding himself and experimenting with a slower process of art-making.
In a video series, he takes a closer look into personal realisations that inspired his most recent series It's Been a While, and I'm Finally Here.., recently exhibited at Wei-Ling Gallery in KL. His work challenges the norms of body types. Through bold and provocative works, the artist wittily "suggests" the notion of loving one’s own physique. The figures in his paintings are rendered from the point of view and style of Queer art, emphasising intimacy, fantasy and heavily hints at normalisation of taboos surrounding the body and gender.
