AS a day of fasting comes to a close with iftar, food on the table that closely resembles a taste of home evokes feelings of gratefulness and joy.
Dishes made by our mothers and grandmothers, and sharing stories with family, make the breaking of fast more meaningful.
With this in mind, The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s The Living Room has come up with a theme called “Cerita Kita di Ramadan 2026”.
Curated by executive chef Arfizan Rahim and his team, guests are treated to a buffet which includes classics and chef favourites.
The bazaar setup extends to the hotel’s outdoor area where traditional aromas and a kaleidoscope of flavours liven up the atmosphere.
As you approach the buffet counter, a towering display of dates impresses guests.
Rendang lovers will also be amazed by the variety on offer like Rendang Udang Cili Padi, Rendang Lala, Rendang Daging Pahang and Rendang Ayam Kampung Hijau.
To accompany them, lemang is essential.

My favourite is lemang pulut hitam (black glutinous rice), which is available here.
There are also traditional lemang and ketupat palas which go well with serunding made from beef and chicken.
My first plate usually comprises ulam and kerabu and there’s a range here with chicken, seafood and tempeh.
You don’t often see roast duck at a Ramadan buffet but it has been included here.
As someone who loves duck, this was a pleasant surprise.
The buffet includes seafood on ice, pickles, hot casseroles, hot Chinese food, an Indian counter and Western dishes.
From the bazaar alfresco area, Arfizan highly recommends getting the Malaysianised version of chee cheong fun stuffed with a choice of chicken rendang, lamb keema or kam heong prawns.
Beef and chicken satay, otak-otak Muar and Rojak Lingges Maju are also served.

If you like porridge, there is Bubur Berlauk with Ayam Berlado, Sambal Bilis, Daging Berlado and Paru Goreng Berempah.
For goat and briyani fans, there are the Kambing Tandoori Golek and Nasi Briyani Kismis.
The dessert corner is also impressive with the Apam Balik Mousse Cake proving to be a hit with guests.
Traditionalists will appreciate the selection of sweet porridges such as bubur pulut hitam, bubur kacang hijau with durian and pengat nangka alongside an assortment of dodol, cakes, Nyonya kuih and ice cream.
The buffet is priced at RM198nett per adult and RM99nett per child (from Sunday to Thursday), and RM238nett per adult and RM119nett per child (Friday and Saturday).
Children aged six and below dine for free.
Marriott Bonvoy and Club Marriott members as well as selected bank cardholders are eligible for a 15% discount on the normal price.
