Ramadan buffet with fishing village theme offers traditional dishes set to bring back memories

SEAFOOD lovers will be spoilt for choice at a hotel in the city centre, as its menu features cuisines popular in fishing villages.

The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s buka puasa spread at The Living Room is themed “Kampung Nelayanku”.

Guests can expect traditional and nostalgic flavours that will bring back delicious memories, such as the once-ubiquitous Singgang Ikan, a fish stew that is an unlikely find at a hotel.

Known as a cheap-to-make dish, it can be considered healthy too, preferred by women in confinement as the cooking does not involve oil and is high in protein.

It will be served alongside a variety of other more elaborate seafood dishes.

The hotel’s executive chef Hamid Buyong said there was a lot diners could look forward to.

“We are serving fresh oysters, which was not included in the Ramadan menu last year.

“The grill and fried food station will be set up at the outdoor area.

“Among the must-have dishes from the grill will be mutton, fish and squid.

Hamid said the menu also included some items from other cuisines such as char kuey teow and sengkuang calit (savoury turnip), both with Chinese origins, and shawarma which originated from the Middle East.

Other dishes are Lala Buloh Masak Pedas, Ikan Keli Cili Hijau, Ikan Keli Goreng Berlado, Siput Sedut Masak Lemak Cili Api, Siput Buluh Masak Halia, Sambal Udang Petai, Udang Masak Cili Telur, Udang Kari Nenas, Kari Kepala Ikan Bendi and Kepala Ikan Asam Pedas Bendi that will be served on a rotational basis.
