Running ahead of fundamentals

OVER the past year, this column has highlighted the property sector a couple of times with the article entitled “Attractive Buys Emerging” (Oct 29, 2022) and “Demystifying Malaysian Property Market Overhang” (Feb 11, 2023).

From a near two-and-a-half-year low in October last year when the first article was published, the Bursa Malaysia Property Index (BMPI) has jumped 41.7% to 875.82 points as of last Thursday’s close, while since the start of the year, the benchmark BMPI is higher by 36.6%.
