Demand for Sirim services jumps 48%

KUALA LUMPUR: Demand for Sirim Bhd’s testing, certification, calibration and training services rose 48% in a year, compared with growth of 7% in the previous year.

In a statement, Sirim said it served 28,700 customers during the year, while its training programmes reached nearly 25,000 industry personnel, including more than 23,000 Bumiputera entrepreneurs and workers.

Its order book more than doubled to RM28mil from RM12.1mil, while customer satisfaction remained above 90%.

Sirim president and group chief executive officer Nik Sazali Nik Hussin said the increase in demand reflected a growing need among Malaysian companies to demonstrate compliance with standards required to access domestic and international markets.

“Under the 13th Malaysia Plan and New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), the country is asking its companies to move into higher-value sectors, and that is where SIRIM creates its greatest value.

“We are automating and digitalising so that a company waits days instead of weeks, because a product that clears testing sooner is a product that launches, scales and exports sooner,” he said.

Nik Sazali said Sirim was expanding its capabilities in areas including environmental, social and governance reporting, artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, semiconductors, medical devices and aerospace.

During the year, Sirim was entrusted with RM474.39mil in development funding across national programmes, including RM300mil under the NIMP Industrial Development Fund.

Sirim said it also reduced processing times by up to 98% in targeted testing areas in 2025, while turnaround times for categories including electrical equipment and safety products were shortened by four to seven days.

The organisation is also involved in the government-mandated Smart Tech Up Programme under NIMP 2030, which has a target of reaching 3,000 participants nationwide by 2030.
