GDEX expands into AI cloud

PETALING JAYA: GDEX Bhd believes its five-year investment in technology capabilities is beginning to pay off, with its tech-arm GD XCHANGE targeting stronger growth from artificial intelligence (AI), cloud and cybersecurity services.

After five years of groundwork, strategic partnerships and talent investments, GDEX managing director and group chief executive officer Teong Teck Lean said the group’s investments in talent and technology have established a foundation for future growth, similar to past strategic moves that helped build its RM217.6mil cash pile.

“Previously, we saw global technology giants investing billions of dollars into AI and next-generation technologies,” he said at the company’s AGM yesterday.

“We believed that such investments would eventually drive substantial demand for these solutions, which is why we chose to invest early.”

Teong reiterated that its successfully launched digital hub GD XCHANGE serves as the foundation of the group’s next phase of growth.

“The launch of GD XCHANGE signifies that we are fully operational and ready to bring these technologies and solutions to the market.

“It is expected to become a key growth engine for the group, with technology contributing an increasingly larger share of revenue and earnings in the years ahead.”

Teong also noted a transformative opportunity emerging in data and AI, that will inherently reshape industries worldwide.

“We recognised early on that the rapid rise of AI, cloud computing and data- driven technologies would create significant opportunities, hence the deliberate decision to diversify and position the group for the next wave of technological growth.”

As GDEX’s tech arm scales, the group will have greater flexibility to enhance shareholder returns, including the possibility of more frequent dividend payments.

“Our strategy is not to compete on price but to differentiate through service quality, technology and customer experience, positioning GDEX as a premium brand in the market.”
