SumiSaujana unit explores collaboration with TOPSOE

KUALA LUMPUR: SumiSaujana Group Bhd said its wholly-owned subsidiary SumiSaujana TCM Chemicals Sdn Bhd (SSTCM) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Denmark's TOPSOE A/S, in relation to the development of projects involving the conversion of sulfur-containing process streams into sulfuric acid via Wet Gas Sulfuric Acid (WSA) technology.

Under the MOU, the parties will collaborate to explore and develop opportunities for the application of WSA technology in Malaysia and Indonesia, including evaluating the technical and commercial feasibility of projects involving the conversion of sulfur-containing streams into

sulfuric acid.

"SSTCM will be responsible for leading the overall project development activities including

feasibility evaluation.

"If any project materialises, SSTCM, whether directly or through special purpose vehicles established for such project, will also lead the permitting, financing, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the

proposed facilities," it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

TOPSOE will support SSTCM throughout the project development lifecycle, including pre-feasibility and feasibility study stages, by providing technical inputs and expertise in relation to its WSA technology.

As projects progress towards the basic engineering design package (BEDP) and final investment decision (FID) stage, TOPSOE is expected to act as the technology licensor and supplier, subject to the terms of definitive agreements to be entered into at a later stage.
