FROM BANGSAR TO BEYOND

Designed as a low-density, private retreat, Eden Taman Duta comprises spacious residences oriented to maximise natural ventilation, daylight and views of the surrounding mature landscape.

On a quiet weekday morning in Bangsar, families stroll into Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) and neighbours exchange familiar hellos.

Some places do more than occupy land – they anchor lives. For generations of Malaysians, BRDB has been building exactly such spaces, including BSC itself, one of its most iconic developments.

Founded in 1964, the company – once known as Bandar Raya Developments Bhd – is one of Malaysia’s earliest real estate pioneers.

Over the decades, this vision has matured into a philosophy that continues to shape how communities live, grow, and flourish.

At the heart of BRDB’s six-decade journey lies the ability to balance continuity and change while staying true to a design ethos that blends beauty, functionality and a sense of belonging.

Pillars that shape a legacy

Group chief executive officer Christopher Manivannan describes BRDB’s DNA as anchored in three pillars: intelligent design, uplifting aesthetics and embracing cosmopolitan.

These principles, he says, define BRDB’s commitment to creating spaces for meaningful living.

“Our design philosophy has always been about creating something lasting, not just in structure but in value and belonging,” he says.

“We’re not selling a location; we’re building communities that people want to be part of.”

This philosophy translates into forward-thinking design, purposeful materials, and an appreciation for international sensibilities interpreted through a local lens.

While BRDB’s legacy is a source of pride, relevance remains key.

“We build on heritage, but it must speak to today’s generation.

“The core remains, but the way we design, think and collaborate keeps evolving,” he adds.

BRDB focuses not on selling properties but on understanding how people engage with the spaces it creates – experiences that shape relationships and values.

Its portfolio of high-end Bangsar residences, including Serai and One Menerung, often forms the backdrop for family celebrations and neighbourhood stories, reinforcing the developer’s reputation for creating homes that feel lived in, loved, and lasting.

Over the years, this steady clarity of vision has earned the company a string of meaningful accolades.

In 2023, BSC earned The Edge Malaysia Property Development Excellence Award for Excellence in Neighbourhood Malls – a fitting honour for a mall that has long thrived on community over scale.

After more than 30 years, BSC still remains a go-to favourite for residents who value comfort, familiarity and experience.

Its resilience through economic shifts and the pandemic, paired with a firm focus on sustainability and tech-enabled retail, has only strengthened that appeal.

Most recently, BRDB was recognised at The Edge Malaysia Best Managed & Sustainable Property Awards 2025 for Palmyra Bangsar and Sri Penaga Condominium, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to thoughtful, quality living.

That reputation travels well.BRDB’s Australian development – Verdana Miranda won the Outstanding Overseas Project Award at The Edge Malaysia Property Excellence Awards 2021, marking its continued success abroad.

This boutique 65-unit development in the suburb of Miranda, Sydney, stands out for its practical yet stylish layouts and use of premium finishes.

Rather than flashy, oversized facilities, the emphasis is on smart design, natural warmth, quality materials and sustainable upkeep.

Even during the pandemic, the project stayed on course thanks to transparent regulations and a reliable local team, keeping investor confidence strong.

A commitment that extends beyond buildings

BRDB’s influence also stretches beyond real estate. At its core is a belief that lasting value must uplift both people and the planet.

One of BRDB’s most impactful initiatives is the BRDB Rotary Children’s Residence in Seri Kembangan, housing up to 150 underprivileged and at-risk children.

More than a shelter, BRCR provides character development, educational support, and a nurturing environment that carries many of the children through to university.

Environmental stewardship is equally meaningful.

Through a decade-long partnership with Free Tree Society (FTS), BRDB champions urban greening and biodiversity while empowering communities to reconnect with nature.

The company’s contribution of land for what is today the Bangsar Nursery – FTS’ main operational hub – has transformed environmental awareness into accessible, everyday action.

Over 80,800 plants have since found new homes in schools, neighbourhoods, and community spaces, while thousands of Malaysians have joined conservation workshops and tree-planting efforts.

Reflecting on the partnership, FTS executive director Baida Hercus shares: “Our mission has always been to make environmental education accessible, fun and impactful.

“We believe real change starts with the community, and our work is rooted in engaging Malaysians to reconnect with nature.”

Building forward: The next chapter of BRDB

Now entering its 61st year, BRDB continues to expand its design philosophy beyond Bangsar while maintaining a presence in key international markets.

Its portfolio includes The Troika, an architectural icon in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, and Emerald Bay, a waterfront sanctuary in Johor embedded in nature and resort-inspired living.

Carrying forward this philosophy is Eden Taman Duta, an upcoming residential enclave along Jalan Gallagher in Taman Duta.

More than two decades in the making, Eden Taman Duta reimagines elevated living amid nature, rooted in well-being and community.

Designed as a low-density, private retreat, Eden Taman Duta comprises spacious residence villas oriented to maximise natural ventilation, daylight and views of the surrounding mature landscape.

The masterplan integrates cascading green terraces, shaded walkways and quiet communal pockets, offering residents an experience that feels both exclusive and deeply connected to nature.

With its emphasis on craftsmanship and enduring materials, the development reflects BRDB’s commitment to creating homes that stand the test of time.

A curated suite of lifestyle amenities, including wellness facilities, recreational spaces and elevated social areas, complements the contemporary living experience.

In many ways, Eden Taman Duta captures BRDB’s enduring pursuit of balance: between nature and city, design and purpose, and heritage and progress, while elevating the standard of refined urban living in Kuala Lumpur.

As BRDB builds toward the next 60 years, it carries forward a legacy defined not only by architecture but by authenticity – a brand shaped by time, trust and the belief that good design is a lasting responsibility.
