Orkim expands fleet with new 49,999-DWT vessel

KUALA LUMPUR: Orkim Bhd and its group of companies, a leading marine transportation provider in Malaysia, has taken delivery of Orkim Citrine, a 49,999-deadweight-tonnes (DWT) vessel, expanding its fleet to 18 ships and boosting total capacity by about 30%.

The Orkim Citrine, designed to transport clean petroleum and chemical products, is set to begin its maiden charter voyage soon.

“We are proud to add Orkim Citrine to our fleet as she strengthens our capacity to serve Malaysia’s growing marine transportation needs and reinforces our position as the market leader in the industry.

“Orkim Citrine, the second Malaysian-flagged Middle Range tanker, is a testament to Orkim’s commitment in growing Malaysia’s available tonnage and contributing further to Malaysia’s energy security,” chief executive officer Cheah Sin Bi said in a statement.

“Fleet expansion is a priority; we are expecting to add two newly-built clean petroleum product (CPP) tankers to our fleet in 2027,” he added.

With this addition, Orkim’s fleet now comprises 18 vessels, with a total load capacity of 239,186 DWT.

The fleet comprises 14 clean petroleum product (CPP) tankers with a total capacity of 134,684 DWT, ranging from 7,000 to 15,000 DWT each, two medium-range CPP tankers with a combined capacity of 98,004 DWT, and two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers with a total capacity of 6,498 DWT.

The vessels operate under various charter arrangements, transporting cargo for energy companies within Malaysia and across neighbouring Asian countries.
