Brewers contribute RM7bil to GDP


PETALING JAYA: The Confederation of Malaysian Brewers Bhd (CMBB), comprising Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd (Carlsberg Malaysia) and Heineken Malaysia Bhd, contributed an average of RM7.1bil annually to economic growth between 2022 and 2023.

In a statement, CMBB said this supported 52,400 jobs and generated RM3.3bil in annual tax revenue.

Stefano Clini, managing director of Carlsberg Malaysia and Martijn van Keulen, managing director of Heineken in a joint statement as members of CMBB’s Governing Council, said: “Brewers are significant contributors to Malaysia’s economy.

“This is not only through taxes but also by driving employment and industrial activity across the manufacturing, logistics, retail and hospitality sectors.”
