MPI to acquire Infineon Technologies Thailand for RM327.6mil

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) is acquiring semiconductor assembly and testing services firm, Infineon Technologies (Thailand) Ltd, from Spansion LLC, Spansion Inc and Cypress Semiconductor Corp for RM327.56mil.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the outsourced semiconductor packaging and testing services firm said Infineon Technologies operates a plant located in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

“Infineon Technologies is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of IFX, a world leader in semiconductor solutions. IFX Group is an existing customer of MPI Group.

“With the proposed acquisition, MPI Group will take over IFX’s backend manufacturing site in Nonthaburi, Thailand. Along with the transition, the acquisition will facilitate further collaboration between IFX Group and MPI Group.”

MPI added that its business and Infineon Technologies’ are similar, given that both companies are involved in semiconductor assembly and testing.

“In this respect, the proposed acquisition is not expected to materially change the risk profile of the business of MPI Group.

“The proposed acquisition is expected to contribute positively to MPI Group in the future,” it said.
