CMS phosphate plant set for commissioning

KUALA LUMPUR: Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMS) has announced that power supply to its phosphate complex in Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu, Sarawak, was restored yesterday enabling commissioning activities to resume.

The phosphate complex, a 142ha facility, is operated by its wholly owned subsidiaries Cahya Mata Phosphates Industries Sdn Bhd, which manufactures yellow phosphorus, technical grade phosphoric acid and food-grade phosphoric acid with a purity of 99.9%.

CMS group managing director Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib said the re-energisation of power for the phosphate complex marks a significant step towards commercialisation of the operation.

“This project will help Malaysia realise its first phosphate plant, enhancing food security at home and building resilience across regional supply chains,” he said in a statement. — Bernama
