Ringgit rises as US plans new tariffs

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Monday, lifted by concerns over Washington’s plan to impose tariffs on three major trading partners from Aug 1, 2025.

Over the weekend, United States President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 30 per cent tariff on goods from the European Union and Mexico, and a 35 per cent tariff on Canadian products.
