PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will champion a number of important projects this year including leading the declaration on an Asean Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Network.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the network will be a platform that facilitates AI safety research, promoting the safe and responsible development of AI and its adoption in the public and private sectors.
He added Malaysia is also initiating the “Asean Guide for Sustainable Data Centre Development”, a framework designed to provide policymakers with the essential tools and insights to build a data centre industry that drives economic growth.
“Additionally, the 5G workforce is being developed, enhanced through specialised courses, and training programmes aimed at reskilling and certifying professionals.
“For data governance, the Cross Border Cloud Computing Framework is being proposed to set out principles,” he said during the 5th Asean Digital Ministers’ Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.
Gobind said another project that Malaysia will take the lead on is the Asean Cybersecurity Cooperation Strategy, a one-year project to outline the development and establishment of the Asean Cyber Cooperation Strategy 2026-2030.
“This project is aimed at addressing challenges, and to create a resilient and secure cyberspace interaction, fostering stronger collaborations and enhancing the sharing of information among Asean Member States to effectively address evolving cyber threats,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gobinds said Asean countries must develop and implement consistent digital and cybersecurity standards together.
“Such a move by South-East Asian nations will drive interoperability of solutions across the region, thus benefitting Asean member states which will result in augmenting their growth and bolstering the region’s position in the global digital economy,” he said.
