Fiscal deficit target of 3% achievable


Johan says there are various ways to expand the revenue base apart from the widely-discussed GST.

IN an interview with StarBizWeek post-Budget 2024, Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican candidly answered several pressing questions from taxes that received criticisms to the matters that the budget has missed out.

The top bureaucrat of the Finance Ministry also acknowledged that the government can achieve its medium-term fiscal deficit target of 3% even without the goods and services tax (GST).
