Md Alwi appointed MDEC chairman


KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has appointed Datuk Seri Md Alwi Che Ahmad as its non-executive chairman for two years, effective Dec 1, 2021.

MDEC said Md Alwi, who is also the state assemblyman for Kok Lanas, Kelantan, has held various top positions in the government, including serving as the political secretary to the minister of youth and sports from 1990 to 1992 and to the minister of rural development from 1993 to 1999, before becoming the political secretary to the prime minister in 2007 to 2009.

"A leading figure in poverty eradication, he has been serving as the chairman of Yayasan Kemiskinan Kelantan since 1993,” the agency said in a statement.

Md Alwi has also held multiple corporate positions, including chairman to Silver Ridge Bhd from 2004 to 2008, Syarikat Permodalan Risda Bhd from 2006 to 2016, and KEMUBU Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) from 2014 to 2018. He has been a board member at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia since 2020.

A professional licensed land surveyor, Md Alwi is a principal of AA Geomatics and Survey Consultants Firm and a fellow of the Institute of Surveyor Malaysia, said the agency. - Bernama
