Kang Yew Jin new CTO of PLUS Malaysia


PLUS Malaysia Bhd has named Kang Yew Jin as its new chief technology officer.

KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Bhd has named Kang Yew Jin as its new chief technology officer in a strategic move to drive the company’s goal to assimilate large data applications in its day-to-day operations and continue its success post receiving the IDC Digital Transformation Award 2020.

Kang who has a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering from the University of New South Wales has over 20 years of experience as an IT professional.

His vast recognition includes the PIKOM CIO of the Year 2015, CIO 100 Index Award for Growth Category awarded to the Hong Leong Bank’s PEX capabilities in 2016, Asian Banker Technology Innovation Award 2016 for Cloud-based Project, IDC Financial Insights Innovation Award 2015 and 2016, and IDG’s Top 50 Asean CIOs in 2019 and 2020.

Prior to joining PLUS, Kang was chief operating officer for digital and print at Star Media Group.

“I am excited to join PLUS as it gives me an opportunity to contribute towards a national icon and see how the usage of technology and data can be utilised to uplift PLUS’ capabilities, ” he said.

“PLUS makes use of a lot of technology in its daily routine and there is a continuous mindset of wanting to further digitise PLUS’ current operations.

“This behaviour is in line with the company’s dreams of moving PLUS towards being a smart highway of the future where change starts with its people’s thinking of wanting to find ways to further digitise their operations.

“It is refreshing to be part of a forward thinking organisation and I am excited to contribute towards ensuring PLUS continues on its upward trajectory of its usage of technologies such as cloud, AI and usage of apps to build a connected ecosystem of the highway of the future, ” said Kang.

According to PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail, Kang’s appointment is in line with PLUS’ aspiration to continue to use technology and data to improve not only the experience of its customers but also its back end operations which are vital to ensure seamless operational practices and in the long run raise efficiency and reduce cost.
