Azmir Merican new Sime Darby Property group MD from April


Sime Darby Property Bhd's board of directors has appointed Datuk Azmir Merican Azmi Merican as the group managing director effective April 22,2020.

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property Bhd's board of directors has appointed Datuk Azmir Merican Azmi Merican as the group managing director effective April 22,2020.

In a statement issued on Tuesday it said Azmir brings a wealth of experience from his background in financial advisory and as a senior business leader.

He is currently the managing director/CEO of UEM Edgenta Bhd, one of the largest asset management and infrastructure solutions companies in Asia with operations in six countries.

Azmir started his career as an investment analyst and later as a manager in the financial & corporate advisory arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He subsequently worked with CIMB Investment Bank and thereafter, joined AWC Bhd as its group chief executive/managing director.

In 2012, Azmir joined the UEM Group as the group chief operating officer, business units, before heading UEM Edgenta.

At UEM Edgenta, he led its ongoing transformation into a technology-based company servicing the healthcare, property and infrastructure sectors.

Sime Darby Property chairman Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz said Azmir’s appointment reinforces the board’s commitment to ensuring Sime Darby Property’s leadership in the industry and towards creating sustainable, long term value for its stakeholders.

“We would like to welcome Datuk Azmir to Sime Darby Property and look forward to working closely with him, ” she said.

Datuk Wan Hashimi Albakri will continue in his current role as acting Group CEO until Azmir’s effective appointment date.

Subsequently, Wan Hashimi will resume the role of chief operating officer, township development.

Sime Darby Property is Malaysia’s largest property developer in terms of land bank with 20,067 acres of remaining developable land.
