Sime Darby Property appoints Zeti as chairman

Zeti(filepic), who was the governor of Bank Negara, replaces Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar who resigned from the board on June 30, said Sime Darby Property in a statement yesterday.

PETALING JAYA: Council of Eminent Persons member and Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) group chairman Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz (pic) has been appointed Sime Darby Property Bhd’s first woman chairman of the board, effective immediately.

Zeti, who was the governor of Bank Negara, replaces Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar who resigned from the board on June 30, said Sime Darby Property in a statement yesterday.

Sime Darby Property group managing director Amrin Awaluddin said the group was honoured and pleased to have Zeti as part of its board.

“Her presence reaffirms PNB’s commitment to Sime Darby Property and our transformation journey. We look forward to working under the chairmanship of Zeti in moving the company forward and delivering value to our stakeholders,” he said in the statement.

Sime Darby Property noted that Zeti had impeccable credentials and a wealth of experience. “She was the seventh governor of Bank Negara from 2000 to 2016.

She led the central bank in successfully implementing the selective exchange controls to restore stability and promote economic recovery in Malaysia. She had been with Bank Negara since 1985.”

Zeti graduated from Universiti Malaya with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. She then pursued her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, specialising in Monetary and International Economics.

Separately, Sime Darby Property has also appointed Datin Norazah Mohamed Razali, who is currently one of the company’s independent non-executive directors, as the new chairman of the nomination and remuneration committee.

Norazah replaced Datuk Rohana Tan Sri Mahmood who resigned from the board on June 30.
