MIRI: Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) will aggresively expand its Long Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G coverage this year to meet the rising demand for voice and data plans in Sarawak's populated areas.
"For Sarawak we currently have more than 100 LTE sites throughout the state which have already been commissioned and ready to be used by our customer," Celcom sales director (Sarawak and Sabah) Choo Meng Chung said at the opening of the Miri Celcom Service Centre on Friday.Choo said the expansion of 4G coverage will include Miri City with more than 24 sites commissioned, including Taman Tunku, Pacific Orient, Morsjaya, Imperial, Desa Pujut, Desa Murni, Tudan, Miri Port and Taman Jelita.
City Mayor Lawrence Lai officially opened the centre named Celcom Xclusive on the second floor of Permaisuri Imperial City Mall.
Lai said Celcom should improve its coverage in the city especially in Senadin which has more than 3,500 Curtin University students, mostly from foreign countries.
He said the current coverage is not good and if not quickly rectified could affect the city's image as an educational hub and resort city.
The service centre is operated by mobile telecommunications products and services retailer ARM Century (M) Sdn Bhd. - Reuters
