KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd
(TM) aims to increase its premium subscriber base under its Internet protocol TV (IPTV) service HyppTV, once it has been made available nationwide.
On Aug 1, TM will be making the HyppTV service available to new and existing 4Mbps and 8Mbps Streamyx broadband customers, which will allow it to expand its coverage throughout the whole country.
“HyppTV Everywhere” is TM’s first multi-screen offering that will enable both UniFi and Streamyx customers to watch HyppTV anywhere and anytime on different devices.
Previously, only UniFi customers, TM’s high-speed broadband service, have access to the HyppTV service.
Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said of the 580,000 or so UniFi customers it has, only 20% to 30% are premium HyppTV subscribers.
He added that a majority of the 1.6 million Streamyx customers were still on the 1Mpbs broadband speed.
“We are looking for new Streamyx broadband customers as well as existing customers who currently have less than 4Mbps to upgrade their speed to at least 4Mbps for them to have access to HyppTV,” he told reporters after the launch of HyppTV’s new services yesterday.
Zamzamzairani said the 8Mbps broadband speed under Streamyx was only launched early this year.
Under the Public-Private Partnership Agreement, HyppTV via UniFi, was only available in key economic and industrial zones in the Klang Valley, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, Kulim Hi-Tech Park and Iskandar Malaysia.
“Now that we have spread beyond, there is more opportunity for us to be known by the larger community,” he said.
For existing and new Streamyx 8Mbps customers, HyppTV will be offered as part of its triple play services of voice, Internet and IPTV packaged at RM160 a month with 17 free channels, and an option to subscribe to HyppTV’s Platinum Pack.
Meanwhile, for the 4Mbps customers that are currently on the two-play Internet and voice package, HyppTV will be offered as an add-on service for RM30 a month that includes the 17 channels.
“HyppTV Everywhere” will be offered as an add-on service for UniFi and Streamyx customers to view HyppTV content on multiple devices for as low as RM5 per month for two devices or RM10 per month for five devices.
HyppTV currently has 109 channels with 27 channels in high definition, which comprise of 25 free-to-air channels. It also has 8 radio channels, 48 premium channels, 16 video-on-demand genres and 20 interactive channels.
