OYL was incorporated in Malaysia on Feb 4, 1974 as a private limited company under the name of O.Y.L Industries Sdn Bhd. The company commenced operations in the same year, assembling GEC gas cookers and Glem Gas ovens using rented factory space in Shah Alam. 

In 1976, OYL entered into a joint venture agreement with Guthrie Malaysia Holdings Bhd (now known as Mulpha International Trading Corp Bhd) to form OYL-Condair Industries Sdn Bhd to manufacture industrial air-conditioners, refrigeration equipment and plant and packaged air-conditioners of 3-horsepower and above. In 1978, OYL and its subsidiary, OYL-Condair, entered into agreements with Borg Warner Corp of the US to manufacture York air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment in Malaysia for distribution abroad.
