PETRONAS Chemicals appoints Izwan Ismail as MD, CEO effective Jan 1, 2027

KUALA LUMPUR: PETRONAS Chemicals Group Bhd (PetChem) has appointed Izwan Ismail as managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) effective Jan 1, 2027.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the petrochemical producer said the appointment was approved at a special meeting held today.

The board of directors, at the meeting, noted the resignation of Mazuin Ismail as MD and CEO effective the same date following his retirement from the PETRONAS group, it said in a separate filing.

PetChem said Izwan, 51, brings over 29 years of experience spanning finance, corporate planning, strategy, commercial management, operations and technology.

"Since October 2024, he has served as vice president, group technology and commercialisation, where he leads PETRONAS Nasional Bhd’s transformation of its artificial intelligence (AI) and digital ecosystem, as well as its research and development ecosystem.

"Currently he serves as director of Petronas Gas Bhd and various subsidiaries of the Petronas Group,” it said.

Izwan began his career with Arthur Andersen in Sydney in 1997 before joining PETRONAS in 2000, where he served in corporate finance, group accounts and group treasury at its subsidiary, MISC Bhd.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a double major in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of New South Wales, Australia, and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School, United States.

"He is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) and a member of the Malaysian Institute Of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA),” it added. - BERNAMA
