Proton posts highest nine-month sales since 2002

The Proton e.MAS 5 is part of the company’s xEV line-up, which recorded 40,000 units in sales nationwide.

PETALING JAYA: Automaker Proton sold 19,465 units in September, up 45% year-on-year (y-o-y), which took its year-to-date (ytd) total to 160,886 units.

The total sales for the nine months is the highest since 2002 and well above 2025 total sales of 157,976 units, the company stated in a release.

Proton estimated market share reached 28.9% for September and 26.9% ytd. Traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) models fueled the surge.

The Proton Saga reclaimed its crown as Malaysia’s overall best-selling vehicle with 8,701 units delivered in September, driving ytd sales to 68,237 units (+34.5%).

The Proton S70 achieved 20,709 units ytd, surpassing its full-year 2025 total. Segment leadership continued with the Proton X50 topping B-segment SUVs (20,163 YTD units) and the Proton X90 leading seven-seater D-segment SUVs (3,250 YTD units, up 69.8%).

In the electrified vehicle (xEV) space, PRO-NET reached 40,000 cumulative deliveries for the Proton e.MAS brand within 20 months, holding over 60% of Malaysia's xEV market.

Led by the Proton e.MAS 5 (over 20,000 deliveries), xEVs now represent 19.3% of Proton’s total volume, nearing the government’s 2030 target of 20%.

On the export front, 1,311 units were shipped from the group's facility in Tanjong Malim in September, raising ytd exports to 7,370 units.

"Proton’s pace of model introductions, infrastructure investments and customer-driven initiatives will not be slowing down.

We still have at least two more launches to come before the end of the year, while our export business is targeting further growth in sales of both Proton and Geely-badged vehicles originating from Malaysia, in overseas markets," Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton, noted in the release.
