NEW DELHI: (Bernama-Xinhua) At least three people were killed and four others seriously injured after a massive fire broke out at an oil facility in the northeastern Indian state of Assam, officials said on Saturday (Nov 7), reported Xinhua.

The fire broke out on Friday at the plant operated by Oil India Limited (OIL) in Tengakhat, Dibrugarh district, about 457kilometres northeast of Dispur, the state capital.

One employee was killed on Friday, while two others succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, according to a local government official.

All four injured people were receiving treatment with ventilator support, government officials said.

OIL has constituted an internal inquiry committee to investigate the cause of the incident.

The fire reportedly followed an explosion during maintenance work at the facility.

It was brought under control shortly afterwards. - Bernama-Xinhua
