Train crushes man sleeping on railway track in Myanmar's Paung Township

YANGON: A man who was sleeping on the railway track in Paung Township was reportedly crushed to death by a DEMU train.

The incident happened on Tuesday (Oct 6) at 10.13am, when the Asan DEMU Yangon-Mawlamyine train departing from Paung Station to Mawlamyine Station ran ovee the man who was sleeping on the tracks between mileposts (162/11) and (162/12).

"The person was identified as 32-year-old Zayar Lin, a resident of Thanchakone, Kweechan Village," said a source close to the security forces.

He said that Zeyar Lin suffered a severed left arm and crushed head injuries and died at the scene.

The body was taken to the morgue at Paung Township General Hospital by the Ba Soe Social Assistance and Rescue Association.

Due to the incident, the train No. (83) Asan DEMU Yangon-Mawlamyine was delayed by about 40 minutes.

Yangon - Mawlamyine Railway: There are 157 railway crossings on the railway line in Mon State from Theinzarat Station to Mawlamyine Station, but only 16 are legal.

There are many illegal railway crossings in Paung Township, and there are also injuries and deaths due to train collisions every year. - Eleven Media/ANN
