BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) at the Ministry of Home Affairs carried out two enforcement operations under ‘Operasi Kakas 2026’ as part of its efforts to curb immigration offences nationwide.
During ‘Operasi Kakas 94/2026’, enforcement officers conducted checks at the capital’s bus terminal, resulting in the detention of one foreign national, who was brought to the Law Enforcement Division for investigation.
The individual is suspected of committing two offences under the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.
The first is under Section 5(1), for entering the country without passing through a designated immigration control post.
The second is under Section 6(1)(c), for entering and remaining in the country without a valid immigration pass.
Meanwhile, ‘Operation Kakas 95/2026’ targeted areas around Seria, with an inspection of one foreign national resulting in the individual’s detention and subsequent transfer to the Law Enforcement Division, Kuala Belait Branch, for investigation.
The individual is suspected of committing an offence under Regulation 15(3) of the Immigration Regulations, Chapter 17, for working in a position that differs from the occupation stated in the individual’s passport.
In a press statement, the department also reported on a prosecution arising from ‘Operasi Kakas 81/2026’, conducted by its Law Enforcement Division.
A 36-year-old Bangladeshi, Shafik Khan, pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17, for overstaying in Brunei Darussalam after his immigration pass had expired.
He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane, which took effect on Aug 11.
