MANILA: A college student was found dead inside the University of Makati (UMak) campus in Taguig City on Friday (Aug 28).
According to the Taguig City police’s spot report, the college student was identified as a 17-year-old male from Taguig City.
Police said one of UMAk’s security guards discovered the student’s body around 8:30am.
Based on the initial investigation, the security guard discovered the student “lying motionless” and “apparently lifeless” beside the university’s generator set on Friday morning.
The security guard immediately informed his superiors and then reported the incident to the Taguig City police.
Medical personnel also arrived at the area to examine the student, who was later found to have no palpable pulse and exhibited “no signs of life.”
Investigators are still looking into the student’s possible cause of death.
Authorities are also securing the CCTV footage in the area relevant to the ongoing investigation.
On Friday afternoon, UMak released a statement confirming the incident.
UMak said it coordinated with authorities for a proper investigation and reached out to the family of the student.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the student’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” UMak said.
The university noted that guidance counselors, trained faculty, and staff are available to provide psychological first aid and support to all UMak community members who may need help.
“We kindly ask the community to respect the family’s privacy by refraining from spreading speculative details and by upholding compassion across all platforms,” UMak added. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
