Thailand steps up flood recovery in Northern Nan Province; more than 30,000 affected and two dead

BANGKOK (Bernama): Thai authorities have stepped up recovery efforts in flood-hit Nan province in the country’s north as floodwaters recede and communities begin cleaning up.

Border Patrol Police (BPP) Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Rungroj Thakoonpounyasiri said disaster volunteer teams from Border Patrol Police Company 325 and Border Patrol Police Region 3 had been deployed to assist affected residents.

"As water levels recede, the BPP has shifted its focus from emergency response to recovery operations to help residents clean their homes, remove mud and debris, and transport damaged belongings,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Rungroj said personnel were also monitoring water levels and conditions in affected areas to respond quickly should flooding recur or more communities require assistance.

Flooding in Nan province has reportedly affected more than 30,000 people since Wednesday morning, with two deaths reported. -- BERNAMA
