Afghan police intercept major opium shipment, detain 7 suspected traffickers


KABUL: Afghan counter-narcotics units intercepted a major drug consignment in northern Kunduz province and detained seven suspected traffickers late Friday, provincial police spokesman Jumadin Khaksar announced on Saturday.

During routine vehicle inspections in Chahar Dara district, security personnel discovered 484 kg of opium poppy, the official said.

In related operations conducted the same day, police in Takhar, Badakhshan, Farah, and Nimroz provinces seized an additional 131 kg of narcotics and arrested five other suspects linked to the illegal trade. - Xinhua
