Over 17 kg of heroin, a million stimulant tablets seized in central Myanmar

YANGON: Myanmar police have seized 17.6 kg of heroin and a million stimulant tablets in central Myanmar's Mandalay region and Naypyitaw Union Territory, according to the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC).

The CCDAC said on Friday (July 31) that acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched four motorcycles in Amarapura township of Mandalay region on Tuesday and confiscated 17.6 kg of heroin along with four suspects.

In a separate statement issued on Thursday, the CCDAC said police seized one million stimulant tablets in Lewe township of Naypyitaw Union Territory on July 23 and arrested five suspects.

The suspects in both cases have been charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, the CCDAC said. - Xinhua
