Karnataka anesthesiologist found murdered at Dharwad home; 8-year-old son stabbed, wife questioned

Police are investigating the murder of anesthesiologist Dr Kiran Honannavar at his Dharwad residence. His injured son is undergoing treatment, while the doctor's wife is being questioned.

KARNATAKA: A 45-year-old anesthesiologist was found murdered inside his apartment in Karnataka’s Dharwad, while his eight-year-old son sustained multiple stab injuries in the same house. Police have taken the doctor’s wife into custody for questioning as they investigate what they suspect may have stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Investigators said there was no immediate indication that an outsider had entered the apartment, which is located inside a high-security residential complex. According to police, only the doctor, his wife and their son were inside the house when the incident occurred.

The deceased was identified as Dr Kiran Honannavar, an anesthesiologist associated with Chirayu Hospital. His wife, Dr Priyanka, an ophthalmologist, is being questioned. Their son is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The incident surfaced after Kiran’s family members were unable to contact him for several hours.

According to police, Priyanka initially told relatives that Kiran was resting. She later allegedly said that he had gone out. When he remained unreachable until the evening, family members went to the apartment to check on him.

They found Kiran lying in a pool of blood inside the house. The couple’s son was discovered in another room with multiple stab injuries.

Police said the child was still alive when officers arrived. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he remains under treatment.

Investigators said they are yet to establish the sequence of events that led to the killing. They are examining physical evidence and plan to analyse CCTV footage from the residential complex to reconstruct movements in and around the building.

Police said Priyanka appeared to be in a state of shock and had made inconsistent statements during questioning. Officers are verifying her account while also recording statements from family members to determine a possible motive.

A case has been registered at the Suburban Police Station.

Police said the exact cause of the doctor’s death and the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to become clearer after the post-mortem examination and further investigation.

Some of Kiran’s relatives have accused Priyanka of the murder. However, police have not confirmed her involvement and said the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials said the incident appears to have arisen from a domestic dispute, though the precise motive has not yet been established. - The Stateman/ANN
