KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Mee goreng, teh tarik and kuih ketayap took centre stage in Helsinki, Finland, as Malaysia showcased its rich culinary heritage at the Asean Noodles in the Garden event on Thursday.
Organised by the ASEAN Helsinki Committee (AHC) and held at the residence of the Ambassador of Thailand, the event brought together members of the diplomatic community in Finland to celebrate ASEAN's rich culinary heritage and vibrant cultural diversity.
The Embassy of Malaysia in Helsinki said Malaysia’s selection reflected the country’s multicultural identity, with culinary influences from the Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities.
Guests also had the opportunity to experience the distinctive flavours and traditions that have made Malaysian cuisine one of Southeast Asia's most celebrated gastronomic offerings.
"Malaysia's participation forms part of the Embassy's ongoing public diplomacy efforts to promote Malaysian culture, strengthen people-to-people ties, and enhance awareness and appreciation of Malaysia among the diplomatic community and friends of ASEAN in Finland,” the embassy said in a statement.
The event also served as a platform to promote the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, highlighting Malaysia as a premier travel destination renowned for its warm hospitality, cultural diversity, breathtaking islands and beaches, ancient rainforests, vibrant cities, and world-class cuisine.
"Through the universal language of food, the embassy invited guests to discover the unique experiences that await visitors to Malaysia,” it said.
AHC comprises the embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Committee works to enhance ASEAN's visibility in Finland, strengthen engagement with Finnish stakeholders, and promote closer cooperation and mutual understanding through cultural, economic and public diplomacy initiatives. -- Bernama
