Laos launches inclusive disaster risk communication initiative

VIENTIANE: Laos' Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in collaboration with the United Nations, on Tuesday (Oct 13) launched an inclusive disaster risk communication initiative and an open call for short videos promoting inclusive, multi-hazard early warning systems.

The launch, held in Lao capital Vientiane, was co-chaired by Lao Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Chanthakhone Boualaphanh and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Laos Bakhodir Burkhanov.

According to a report from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on Tuesday, the initiative aims to bridge information gaps and ensure that people, including persons with disabilities, can access, understand and respond promptly to weather forecasts and early warnings through accessible communication channels.

During the event, stakeholders presented survey findings on public awareness of weather forecasts and early warning systems to promote information sharing and strengthen communication efforts. - Xinhua
