YANGON: Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe met with the UN Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator in Myanmar and representatives of UN agencies on June 26 at the Saturingabala Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, the Union Minister briefed participants on Myanmar's domestic political developments, the government's future plans, and the progress made in creating conditions conducive to peace talks.
He said the government remains committed to ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches those genuinely in need without discrimination.
He noted that Myanmar is cooperating closely with UN agencies and international organizations to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, granting access to all areas where security conditions permit and making the necessary arrangements for the travel of UN personnel and international organisations.
The Union Minister reaffirmed that the Myanmar government will continue its cooperation with UN agencies operating in the country and stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination with relevant ministries in the provision of humanitarian assistance.
He also called on the international community to adopt a constructive and politically neutral approach to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need.
He further emphasized the need for sustainable development assistance to improve the well-being of the people and strengthen Myanmar's economic resilience.
Representatives of the UN agencies also briefed the meeting on their ongoing programmes and cooperation with relevant ministries in Myanmar and exchanged views on related matters.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and senior ministry officials, the UN Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator in Myanmar, country representatives from Unicef, UNHCR and UN Women, Heads of Office from the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, IOM and UNOCHA, as well as Deputy Representatives and Acting Heads of Office from WHO, UNFPA, UNOPS, WFP, FAO and UNDP. - Eleven Media/ANN
