MANILA: Former Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball team head coach Tab Baldwin appeared before the National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday (June 23) after failing to attend two scheduled appearances last week in connection with the ongoing probe into the deaths of student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
Baldwin arrived at the NBI Homicide Division around 1:45pm with his legal counsel, Karl David, and is still at the bureau as of posting time.
The former head coach failed to appear before the bureau on June 16. His lawyer appeared on his behalf, citing Baldwin was “not in good condition.”
Baldwin missed the second scheduled proceedings on June 19 after he appeared before the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) that same day.
Both the NBI and the PNP are investigating the deaths of Baterbonia and Adili, who drowned during a team activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, earlier this month.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag earlier said they will compare Baldwin’s statement given to the NBI with the testimony he gave to the CIDG last Friday.
The bureau has said it intends to conclude its investigation into the deaths of the two Ateneo cagers this week. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
