PHNOM PENH: Lieutenant General Vu Hong Son, commander of the Air Defence Command of the Vietnam People’s Army, said Vietnam is closely monitoring the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border and fully supports a peaceful resolution to the dispute to ensure long-term peace and stability in the region.
He shared his remarks during a June 22 meeting with General Vong Pisen, commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), at the RCAF General Headquarters.
During the meeting, the Vietnamese general recalled the longstanding friendship and strong solidarity between Cambodia and Vietnam, noting that the two countries had stood shoulder to shoulder in past struggles.
For his part, Pisen stressed that “mutual assistance and the preservation of solidarity among Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos are fundamental to development and peace in the region.”
He expressed satisfaction with the close and longstanding ties between the air defence forces of both nations, noting that a number of Cambodian officers have received training in Vietnam, which has helped strengthen human resources and deepen military-to-military friendship.
Pisen also voiced pride in the steadily expanding friendship and cooperation between the Cambodian and Vietnamese armed forces, expressing confidence that bilateral exchanges between the air force leadership of the two countries would yield fruitful results and further strengthen cooperation.
The RCAF commander-in-chief thanked the Vietnamese state and armed forces for their continued support and assistance to Cambodia, particularly in human resource development and strengthening the capabilities of the air force.
Both sides agreed to further enhance cooperation through delegation exchanges, human resource training, information sharing, cross-border crime prevention and disaster response.
Pisen expressed particular gratitude to Vietnam for supporting “the ceasefire and the search for a peaceful solution to the Cambodia-Thailand border issue”, as well as for assigning officers to participate in the Asean Observer Team (AOT).
He urged Vietnam to continue supporting the AOT mission to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire and contribute to maintaining lasting peace, stability and security along the border. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
