PHNOM PENH: The embassy of India in Phnom Penh and several ministries organised a large-scale yoga event on Sunday (June 21), to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga at the Techo Meas Techo Yort Park in Phnom Penh.
The yoga event was held under the theme of “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”.
Indian ambassador to Cambodia Vanlalvawna Bawitlung explained that the theme is a reminder to societies around the world on the need to promote holistic well-being and to adopt yoga as a means to achieve improved quality of life across all age groups.
It also reflects the growing universal recognition of yoga’s transformative potential to deliver physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Yoga originated in ancient India as a holistic discipline that unites body and mind, man and nature. It has transcended societies and geographies and today it has become a global movement as it is embraced across continents as a trusted pathway to healthy and active living, according to Vanlalvawna.
Young yoga enthusiasts including students, yoga practitioners, government officials and members of the public, were graced by the presence of senior government functionaries and representatives from ministries, government organizations and private yoga organisations.
The Phnom Penh event came just two days after a major event to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga was held in Siem Reap on June 19, with the participation of ourism minister Huot Hak.
The Indian Embassy said that more than 12 Yoga events across various locations in Cambodia will be held in the run up to the 12th International Day of Yoga, in collaboration with ministries and government departments, universities and yoga institutions and with the participation of yoga enthusiasts. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
