MANILA: The Department of Justice (DOJ) is looking into possible charges against public officials as it continues its investigation to determine the link between the May 13 shooting at the Senate and the escape of Senator Ronald dela Rosa from protective custody in the early morning of May 14.
Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said the panel of prosecutors obtained accounts from members of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), media practitioners, and CCTV footage indicating that sniper shots were fired from the fifth floor of the Senate building toward an identifiable NBI vehicle parked at the GSIS premises.
“At this stage, the investigation remains active and ongoing,” Vida said.
When asked if specific persons are being investigated, Vida said in Filipino, “not yet. Based on the initial findings coming out, many of the personalities involved are public officials.”
“What I can assure the public is that the department will pursue the matter professionally, objectively, and without fear or favor,” Vida said.
“No individual is above the law, but equally important, no person should be judged before the evidence has been fully examined,” he added. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
