Brunei’s biodiversity celebrated through art

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Datuk Seri Setia Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin officiated the launching of ‘Whispers of the Wild: Brunei’s Nature’, an art exhibition celebrating Brunei’s rich natural heritage, at the Malay Technology Museum in Jalan Kota Batu on Saturday (May 16).

The duo exhibition features works by local artists Kemariah Duraman (Kem Yeoh) and Noorfitriah Hafiizah Md Hassan (Moi Sunnn).

Described as a visual dialogue between two distinct artistic voices, the exhibition brings together Kem Yeoh’s detailed interpretations of the Bornean wilderness and Moi Sunnn’s portrayals of local flora and fauna, creating an immersive and thought-provoking experience, while highlighting the country’s biodiversity through visual art.

For both artists, nature serves as more than a subject. It is a source of emotional connection and creative grounding and the showcases are interpreted through their perspectives shaped by personal experiences of reflection, healing and inspiration.

The exhibition also aims to raise awareness on the importance of biodiversity conservation, particularly among younger audiences, underscoring the need to appreciate, understand and preserve the environment, while encouraging visitors to reflect on their relationship with the natural world. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
