HANOI: Vietnam's nationwide electricity consumption hit a record high for this year on Wednesday (May 13) amid a prolonged heatwave affecting many parts of the country, local daily Nhan Dan reported Thursday.

According to the National Power System and Market Operator Company, more than 1.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were consumed that day.

The national power system's peak load reached 52,487 megawatts at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, setting a new operational record for 2026 and equivalent to 95.5 per cent of the peak level recorded in 2025.
